SNOW COVERED AUSANGATE TREK

6 DAYS

Ausangate is the mountain most characteristic of the Cuscanian Andes, situated in the Vilcanota range, in one of the highest, most inhospitable and extraordinary regions of Peru.  It’s situated at 6,372m among expanses of turquoise lakes and high plains in forests of rocks which create a seemingly lunar landscape, totally isolated from the modern world.  The expedition to the snow covered peak Ausangate is an indescribable adventure, where you will be in awe of the beauty of the landscapes and of the sunsets which make this trip unforgettable.

First Day: Cusco – Tinki
Early in the morning, we pickup the passengers from their respective hotels and take our private transportation through Urcos, with views of Mount Ocongate, and arrive in Tinki, about three hours later.  It’s here that we setup our first campsite and admire the view of the majestic snow-covered peak, Ausangate.  (Lunch/Dinner)

Second Day: Tinki - Upispampa
We have an early breakfast and continue our trip to Upispampa.  Today we get to see a variety of animals, including alpacas and sheep, typical in this region.  Lunch is eaten in a place called Manantiales.  After a rest, we continue our trek until we arrive at the Ubispampa hot springs where we set up camp.  (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Third Day: Upispampa – Pucacocha
A full breakfast begins perhaps our most challenging day of the trek, finally arriving at Arapa Pass, approximately 4,100m.  From there, we head on to Pucacocha Lake where we set up camp.  Today we admire impressive landscapes and a pass through a few small communities.  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Fourth Day:  Pucacocha – Pacchapampa
We rise for an early breakfast to continue our trek to the little lakes and then to the highest point on our trip, the Ausangate Pass (4500m).  Later we continue on to a lake of the same name. From here, the towering snowcapped Ausangate allows us spectacular views right from our campsite.  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Fifth Day: Pacchapampa - Apachetapampa
Breakfast is eaten and then we hike for approximately three hours up snowy Palomar Pass, then to Apachetapampa where we have lunch.  In the afternoon, we trek on to Urpi hot springs where we make our final campsite, now far from the snow-covered Ausangate.  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Sixth Day: Apachetapampa - Tinki – Cusco
After breakfast, we continue our hike back to Tinki, passing local communities, and arriving in time for lunch.  Finally we return to Cusco, arriving about 8:30pm.
