Aguas Calientes - Cusco - Machupicchu

PERU ADVENTURE TOURS UNFORGETTABLE 12 DAYS

Itinerary:

Day 01: Transfers Airport Cusco-City Tour
First, you are received and escorted to the designated hotel for a welcoming drink of coca tea, and to then spend the rest of the morning acclimatizing to the altitude. At 1:30 we’ll start our city tour; visiting major sites such as the Cathedral, the Museum of Koricancha, and the four nearby archaeological sites: Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucca Pucara and Tambomachay. The tour ends at 6:30pm.

Day 02: ATV Tours (quad bikes)
WeWe have a 9:00am breakfast and take private transportation to Enaco where we’ll begin the 4-wheel tour traveling through the mountains of Cusco and the spectacular scenery of the area. The trip lasts about four hours and will be with a professional guide. After the tour, we return to Cusco at approximately 2:30pm.

Day 03: Excursion to Machupicchu Santa Maria (Bike and Hike)
At 7:30am we’ll take an interprovincial bus to Quillabamba that takes about four hours. (Optionally, we can take private transportation). We’ll go over the Malaga Pass (4200m), the highest point on this trip, before we descend. There’s beautiful scenery along the way to Alfamayo, where we’ll then start the bike tour to Santa Maria (approximately four hours ride). In Santa Maria we stay with a local family and discuss the plans for the next day. (snack / dinner)

Day 04: Santa Maria-Santa Teresa
After a good breakfast, we start by crossing the Vilcanota River. On the road, we will appreciate a wide variety of fruits from the area such as bananas, mango, oranges, etc. We’ll then enter the jungle by a narrow road passing through other varieties of agricultural plantations, such as coffee, cassava, coca leaf production zones, and so on. You will arrive at the top and take a break while overlooking the valley. Our route crosses a portion of original Inca Trail and even a point from which you can see the end-point of the day’s hike. We’ll have lunch at a family’s house along the way. In the afternoon we can visit the relaxing thermal baths of Cocalmayo in the midst of the stunningly beautiful landscape. Before the sun sets we’ll drive about thirty minutes to the town of St. Teresa and spend the night with a local family. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner).

Day 05: Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes
After an 8:00am breakfast, we’ll continue across the Vilcanota River by a narrow path along the river until we reach the hydroelectric dam. This day is warm but a less tiring hike than the day before. We’ll stop for lunch in the area and then continue the trek along the train tracks for about two hours to the town of Aguas Calientes, the last settlement before reaching Machupicchu. We’ll then spend the night in a hostel. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner).

Day 06: Aguas Calientes - Cusco - Machupicchu
We have an early 4:45am breakfast before hiking up to the archeological zone of Machupicchu (one hour). If we’re lucky we’ll see the sunrise before our guided tour, to ensure we see the most important areas of Machupicchu. After the tour you’ll have a few hours to explore on your own and climb Mt Waynapicchu for some more impressive views. In the afternoon we head down to the train station and return to Cusco and our hotel that night. (Breakfast / Snack)

Day 07: Free
This is a free-day to enjoy the city of Cusco or take the optional city tour. In the evening we receive our guide’s briefing about the rafting trip to the Apurimac River.

Day 08: Cusco rafting in the Apurimac River
At 9:00am we meet the group in the private bus and we’ll head to Huallpachaca in the Apurimac River Valley, a journey of approximately four hours. Lunch is held by the river and the guide will give a safety briefing and hand-out the gear (helmet, neoprene suit, life jackets, spray jacket, paddle). We enter the river and do a few practice runs on class II and III rapids for about two hours before arriving at the first camp (lunch/dinner). We receive a briefing for the second day before retiring.

Day 09: Rafting Apurimac
After a good breakfast and some stretches, we will enter the river for a full six hours of rafting class III IV rapids. Between the rapids, we gaze up to enjoying the beauty of the canyon on this amazing day. Finally we will arrive to the next campsite for a bonfire and dinner. (breakfast/lunch/dinner)

Day 10: Rafting Apurimac - Cusco
With an early start, we’ll pack up and have breakfast for about four hours on Class I, II, III, VI and V rapids, depending on the water level, and portaging around a few spots due to safety concerns. After the adventure, we’ll have a great lunch on the banks of the river and finally return back to Cusco 4:30pm. Tonight we’ll watch the trip video!

Day: 11 Free
This is reserved as a free day to explore Cusco.

Day 12: Transfer Airport
At an indicated time, we’ll escort you to the Cusco airport.
