COLLPA OF GUACAMAYO FULL CAMPING
05 DAYSFirst Day: Puerto Maldonado - Manu
We start off with a reception at the airport and transfer to Puerto Pastora where we take a boat down the Madre de Dios River and Las Piedras to the Boca Pariamanu River where we will camp. At night we will do the traditional "Caimaneo" to search for alligators in the river. In the journey we can see a wide variety of flora and wildlife as capibaras, birds, such as eagles, vultures, periquitos, as well as giant trees and many other species.
Second Day: Boca Manu-Boca Pariamanu-Collpa of Guacamayo
After breakfast, we continue traveling upriver for about three hours to the Clay Lick of Pariamanu, and to where our second camp is awaiting us. We then begin a walk through the jungle, where we can appreciate wide varieties of medicinal plants, timber and chestnut trees or Brazil nut trees, birds and animals like monkeys, sajinos and other species. Later, we return to camp for lunch and take a short rest. In the afternoon we will go fishing in the river and at night we’ll visit a small collpa mammal before returning to the camp.
Third Day: Collpa of Guacamayo-Rios las Piedras
After breakfast, we go visit the clay lick to see the parrots. We stay for approximately two hours to see how these birds eat the clay cliff of salt that is rich in minerals. The calcium serves to neutralize the toxins in the body because they feed mainly on green fruit. Then we visit a small lake that has a variety of birds and other species. We continue to on to the Isle of the Monkeys to camp. Optionally, we can go on another alligator hunt.
Fourth Day: Islands of Monos-Lago Sandoval
After breakfast, we visit the Island of the Monkeys to see the different species of monkeys, such as maquisapas, capuchins, pichicos and guasitas. Then we go to the entrance of lake and begin walking for about an hour and a half to reach our camp. We walk in the jungle and go canoeing on the lake, exploring the wide variety of flora and fauna, and in the evening we’ll try to spot a black caiman in the lake.
