ICA

The area of Ica is well known for its surrounding countryside and the good quality of its wines and its Pisco liquor (first producing area of the country). It is also the cradle of the Nasca and Paracas civilizations. The town of Ica is called the city with the “eternal sun”. On Quechua language Ica means “Water which emanates from the Earth”. The city was founded in 1563 by Don Shine Jeronimo de Cabrera but was not recognized as such as until 1633.
The whole of the area does not exceed the 400m of altitude on its 21,337 km2. According to the last census, 712,938 inhabitants are living in this area. The climate is hot and dry (subtropical desert climate) with temperatures being able to climb until 36ºC during the summer.
Tourism is well developed there, starting with the area of Chincha until Marcona which corresponds to the lines of Nasca. There are many archeological, prehistoric and paleontological sites and well of others for green or adventure tourism.
