SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

This is a full day tour to the Incan Sacred Valley. Our first stop will be the small town of Pisaq to visit the local agricultural market, where peasants and artisans gather to buy and sell their products. After lunching at a country restaurant, the tour continues north, to visit Ollantaytambo, a magnificent fortress built during the reign of the Great Inca Pachacutec and an excellent example of Incan military architecture. Then, we’ll head to Chinchero, a colonial village about 28 km outside of Cusco, also fairly high, at 3,762 meters above sea level. This village is surrounded by a magnificent landscape abutted by the snow-capped mountains of Chicón and Wequey. In this district, we’ll find the remains of the Royal Farm of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. Chinchero was an ancient agricultural center and in its main square, there is a beautiful colonial church that was built over Incan foundations. We’ll also be able to visit the handicrafts market, where the local people still trade their products among themselves.
