CHOQUEKIRAO TREK to MACHUPICCHU - 8 DAYS

Itinerary:

First Day: Cusco – Cachora - Rosalina Beach
Between 4:00 and 4.30am we gather our passengers from their hotels and travel in private transportation to Cachora, approximately three hours from Cusco. After breakfast, we begin our trek to Capuliyoc, where we get a beautiful view of the Apurimac Canyon, the headwaters of the Amazon River. After a rest, we continue on to Chikisca and have lunch. After lunch we drop down to Rosalina beach, on the shore of the Apurimac, 1545m/5000ft, and set up camp. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Second Day: Rosalina Beach – Choquekirao
We have breakfast early and continue with a long trek to Chokequirao. At around 2:00pm, we stop to visit an archeological site and from this height, we also have a spectacular view of the Apurimac River. We often see condors flying above the canyon’s walls. Finally, we set up our camp on the edge of the Choquekirao ruins, at 3050m/10,000ft. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Third Day: Choquekirao – Maizal
We have a typical Andean breakfast and begin our several hour trek up to 3300m/10,800ft, after which, we descend down to the Rio Blanco, at 1900m/6200ft, passing Pinchiunuyoc, another archeological site, as well as many bird species, orchids and coca plants. From Río Blanco, we trek up about three hours to Maizal, where we set up camp. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Fourth Day: Maizal – Yanama
After an early breakfast, we begin our trek through the mountains and, notably, “Minas Victoria”. Near the highest part, 4150m/1360ft, we can see some of the original sites the Incans developed, and then, finally, we go down to our campsite at 3800m/12,500ft. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Fifth Day: Yanama - Totora
After a good breakfast, we start a slow hike up to the highest pass in our trek, over 4670m/15,300ft. Not surprisingly, we are often treated to impressive views of mountains and snow around us. Most notable are the mountains of Sacsarayoj and Padrayoj. In the afternoon, we arrive to our campsite at 3630m/11,900ft in Totora. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Sixth Day: Totora - La playa
After a good breakfast, we start a slow hike up to the highest pass in our trek, over 4670m/15,300ft. Not surprisingly, we are often treated to impressive views of mountains and snow around us. Most notable are the mountains of Sacsarayoj and Padrayoj. In the afternoon, we arrive to our campsite at 3630m/11,900ft in Totora. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Seventh Day: La Playa – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we trek up to 2810m/9200ft, approximately three hours, to get an excellent view of Machupicchu. After a good rest, we go down and take the train or hike the last few hours to the town of Aguas Calientes, the last community before reaching Machupicchu, and where we’ll spend the night in a hostel before going up to the ruins early the next morning. Eighth Day: Machupicchu – Cusco
After breakfast, we take an early bus or walk up to the ruins of Machupicchu. You will have a guided tour of about two hours, to introduce the most important sites of the ruin. Then there is time for a hike up the neighboring peak, Waynapicchu. In the afternoon, we go back down to Aguas Calientes to take our train back to Cusco. You will receive transfer back to your hotel from the train station. (Breakfast)

  • Entrance fee to Machupicchu and Choquekirao.
  • Train back from Aguas Calientes to Cusco.
  • Bus up to and down from Machupicchu ruins.
  • 01 night in a hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes.
  • Transfer to hotel at the end of the trip.

  • Sleeping bag (you can rent a quality bag in our office at minimal price).
  • Tips for our personnel.
  • Extras not mentioned in the program.

You should bring:

  • Sleeping bag.
  • Water bottle (the chef will provide boiled water in the mornings).
  • Water purification tablets.
  • Original passport.
  • Person backpack.
  • Comfortable shoes or hiking boots.
  • Rain jacket or poncho.
  • Flashlight, sun hat, sun block, sunglasses.
  • Bug repellent.
  • Undergarments, six pairs of socks, warm clothes.
  • Extra plastic to keep your gear dry in rain.
  • Chocolate or your other favorite trail snacks.
  • Camera and batteries.
  • Extra money.
